DESCRIPTION

Originally commissioned for the Louvre Museum courtyard site in Paris, France, by Florence Lynch Gallery of NYC for the FIAC art fair, and currently under consideration by the Department of Cultural Affairs (France) for the temporary art festival Nuit Blanche, this temporary sculpture project entitled Marianne's Breast makes reference the iconic painting "Liberty Leading the People" (French: "La Liberté guidant le peuple") by Eugène Delacroix, which is closely associated with French identity. The image of Marianne is widely considered a national emblem of France, is, by extension, an allegory of Liberty and Reason, and this temporary sculpture project provokes a dialogue around these issues.
